“Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, 
stricken by him, and afflicted.” 
Isaiah 53:4

Isaiah’s describing the Suffering Servant - someone who would carry our pain, even though people would assume God was punishing Him. It’s a picture pointing ahead to Jesus.

As a new Christian I had to look deeper into this and apparently this verse from Isaiah is part of “Isaiah’s ‘Suffering Servant’ poems and they paint a picture of God’s servant who suffers unjustly, carries the burdens of others, and is finally lifted up by God. Christians see this fulfilled in Jesus.
