Here John is describing a moment from the crucifixion, Jesus receives the drink, declares “It is finished,” and willingly gives up His spirit. It’s the point where everything the Father sent Him to do is completed - the sacrifice offered, the mission fulfilled, the rescue story turning toward resurrection.
